[Article 149]About Us

It was wonderful to see the students back at school on the first day, taller, smiling and telling us about their summer adventures. I am very excited about this school year as we have a highly dedicated and enthusiastic staff.

We have many new and exciting initiatives for our students. We are very excited to offer a Full Day Early Learning Kindergarten Program this year. Students are attending kindergarten every day, all day. The program focuses on the whole child, including their academic, social, and emotional development. We believe that with the additional time in school and a very effective approach to teaching and learning, our students will excel in this program.

We are one of the most technologically advanced schools in the province of Ontario, truly a 21st Century learning environment. We are encouraged by the positive impact that our laptop technology has had on student engagement and achievement. We know that our kids enjoy the technology as it makes learning interesting, challenging and provides them with global learning opportunities. The wide range of technology offered to students is increasing this year. Like last year, every student in grades 4 to 8 will have their own wireless netbook for learning. All students in kindergarten to grade 3 will have access to iPads for reading, writing and mathematics instruction. Over the next few weeks, every classroom will have a SMART Board.

In order to support the development of our students’ social skills and build community within our school learning environment, we are strengthening our Lion’s Quest program. Students will learn character education skills to help foster positive relationships with others and give them the tools to be successful, independent learners now and into the future.
We are proud that our programming reflects and honours the cultural diversity of our school and our community. We invite our school community members and residents of Sioux Lookout to stop by this year and see the great things we are doing with our kids.
