Research has shown that children who regularly eat breakfast have better standardized test scores, are better able to concentrate in school and are less hyperactive than children who skip breakfast. Sioux Mountain Public School is proud to offer a morning nutritional program to any students who wish to participate. Each morning, student and staff volunteers prepare and deliver breakfast bins to each classroom. Students can choose from a variety of snacks including fresh fruit, cereal products, muffins, and dairy products.
This program would not be possible without our volunteers as well as the generous contributions received from programs such as the National Breakfast for Learning program and the Northwestern Health Unit. In addition, many local organizations such as the Sioux Lookout Rotary Club and the Les McFee Memorial Golf Tournament have been instrumental in ensuring funds are available to continue this very worthwhile venture. Just this past year, our school has also been able to partner with the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario’s, ‘Nutrition for Learning’ project and Johnny’s Fresh Market to purchase a coupon program to assist with costs savings.
